AABB's fee page is a single sheet. A reader takes three kinds of figure from it: a membership amount, a volume fee that depends on how much work the institution does, and an activity fee that depends on what it is accredited for. This guide reads that page for AABB's transfusion service, blood center, reference laboratory, relationship testing, cell and gene therapy and perioperative lines. Every figure below comes from AABB's PDF, which we opened October 3, 2026, and none of it is an IHS fee.
Last reviewed: October 2026.
What AABB publishes and where
The schedule is a one-page PDF: AABB institutional fees (page opened October 3, 2026). Its heading reads 2026 AABB Institutional Dues Fees, and the date 10.01.2025 is printed at the foot. Apart from the fee rows it carries a few notes on volume counts, lead assessors, travel and multi-site work, and nothing on standards, process or timeline.
The published fees, as printed
Amounts are in U.S. dollars as printed. Row names are AABB's labels. In the two activity tables, the last column links the IHS page on the program whose name matches the row. AABB's schedule does not say which row belongs to which program, so those links follow the names only. Verify current fees with AABB.

How the fee structure works
Think of the amount as three pieces. The schedule prints one membership amount. The volume fee grows with your numbers. The activity fee depends on what you are accredited for. The sheet shows one row per activity, and it does not say what a second activity adds to your total.
- Recurring and one-time. The application fee is the one row marked for new members only. Annual or per-year wording appears on membership, volume, the non-U.S. travel line and the rare blood donor program fee. The $3,694 accreditation fee carries no such wording, so ask AABB whether it recurs.
- What the volume fee counts. AABB assigns a different count to each type of institution: units, samples or patients, and where two counts could apply it uses the greater one. The notes under the sheet list the count for each type. Confirm with AABB which count puts you in a band.
- Which row applies. Which activity row is yours depends on your main line of business, and the schedule does not say who makes that call. Ask AABB before you budget.
- Lead assessors and sites. A note under the sheet speaks to assessments that cross state lines, to assessments of four or more sites, and to CLIA numbers. If you have several sites, read that note with AABB beside you, because the sheet prices none of the multi-site effects.
What the schedule does not include
- Any dollar figure for multi-site extras, which the sheet mentions without pricing.
- Whether the $3,694 accreditation fee is charged once or for each activity.
- Any appeal, reconsideration, re-assessment or expedite fee.
- Any travel fee for U.S. or Canadian locations. The only travel line is $1,568 a year, billed for locations outside the U.S. and Canada.
- Blood units for the American Rare Blood Donor Program. Its $1,150 yearly fee is separate from the units, which the sheet does not price.
Reading the schedule
This section is arithmetic on the published figures. It is not a quote, an estimate or a bill, and each example assumes one activity, one site and the stated volume band.
- New member, Transfusion Activity Accreditation, 1 to 5,000 units: $1,714 + $1,740 + $1,954 + $146 = $5,554.
- The same institution after the first year, with no application fee: $1,714 + $1,954 + $146 = $3,814.
- Member with Perioperative Activity, 1 to 5,000 processed, which sits in the lead assessor group: $1,714 + $2,336 + $3,694 + $146 = $7,890.
- Relationship Testing Activity plus the attached accreditation fee: $5,748 + $3,694 = $9,442, before membership and the case fee. For Relationship Testing Secondary: $3,658 + $3,694 = $7,352.
With a second activity, the schedule does not say whether the volume fee or the $3,694 repeats.
Where this fits
This guide serves the IHS pages on each AABB line. The transfusion service page covers the standards, the assessment phases and what to have ready for hospital and out-of-hospital transfusion services. The pages on blood center and donor center, immunohematology reference laboratory, relationship testing, cell and gene therapy pharmacy and perioperative autologous blood accreditation each cover their own program.
What this is not
This guide is not a copy of AABB's page and not an IHS price list. The amounts are AABB's, as printed, and the examples are arithmetic on them. IHS does not set, collect or pass through any AABB fee, and IHS does not apply to AABB for you: IHS drafts, and your organization submits. IHS scopes each engagement after a free introductory call.
Frequently asked questions
Does AABB publish its institutional fees?
Yes. AABB posts a one-page PDF titled 2026 AABB Institutional Dues Fees, which we opened October 3, 2026. It lists membership, volume and activity fees and a few add-ons. Verify current fees with AABB.
What date does the AABB fee schedule carry?
The heading says 2026, and the date 10.01.2025 is printed at the foot of the page. The schedule does not explain what that date marks or when the amounts next change. Ask AABB which version applies to your assessment.
What is the $3,694 accreditation fee?
It is the figure in the heading over AABB's boxed group of activity rows, described as added to the activity fees listed in that box. The schedule does not say whether it is charged once or for each activity, so ask AABB before adding a second activity.
Are travel costs part of the schedule?
One travel line appears: $1,568 a year, billed for locations outside the U.S. and Canada. The sheet also mentions possible extra fees for activities at several sites and gives no amounts. It lists no other travel charge.
Can I add up the schedule to get my total?
You can add the rows that apply, as the arithmetic section does, but the result is not a bill. The schedule leaves open which row AABB assigns, whether some fees repeat for each activity, and what multi-site extras cost. Verify current fees with AABB.
Does IHS set or collect AABB fees?
No. The schedule is AABB's, and IHS does not set, collect or pass through any of it. IHS scopes each engagement after a free introductory call.
